Capcom is working hard to polish Monster Hunter Wilds before launch, focusing particularly on improving performance and potentially lowering the PC's GPU requirements. Let's dive into the details.

On January 19th, 2025, Capcom's German Twitter (X) account announced performance improvements for Monster Hunter Wilds. A video showcased smoother gameplay on PS5, highlighting an updated Prioritize Framerate mode that boosts fps at the cost of some visual detail. This same optimization effort is underway for the PC version, with a specific focus on reducing the required GPU power. The tweet stated, "Performance will be improved in a similar way and we are looking into whether we can lower the recommended GPU requirements."

Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Success in lowering these requirements would make Monster Hunter Wilds accessible to a much wider range of PC players using lower or mid-tier GPUs.

To further aid players, Capcom plans to release a free benchmarking tool to help determine optimal settings and PC compatibility. This should alleviate concerns about needing expensive upgrades before playing. For more information on Monster Hunter Wilds, check out our other articles.

Addressing Issues from the First Open Beta

The first Monster Hunter Wilds open beta (October-November 2024) received mixed reactions due to performance issues. Steam players reported low-poly character models and monsters, resulting in visuals described as worse than a PS1 game. Frame rate drops and other performance problems were also common complaints, especially considering many players used high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often came at the cost of visual fidelity.

Capcom acknowledged these issues on November 1st, 2024, stating that an afterimage noise problem (when Frame Generation was enabled) would be fixed in the full game, which was already in a more improved state than the beta.

A second open beta is scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, featuring Gypceros and a new monster. Whether the recent performance improvements will be included in this beta remains to be seen.
