Developer Announces Major Tweaks to REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling

by Max May 26,2025

REPO's Overcharge and difficulty scaling are set for major updates, as announced by the game's developer, Semiwork. These changes, influenced by player feedback during the open beta, aim to enhance gameplay by introducing new mechanics and adjusting the game's challenge level progressively.

Overcharge Overhaul

During REPO's recent open beta, the game's Overcharge mechanic drew significant attention from the community. Originally, Overcharge enabled players to pick up and throw enemies onto hard surfaces or away from their team, a feature that's now being refined. Players can't use this ability freely; an Overcharge meter fills up, leading to an explosion if not managed properly.

In response to player feedback, Semiwork has decided to introduce the Overcharge mechanic at level 10, rather than having it available from the start. This adjustment is part of a broader strategy to increase difficulty and introduce new mechanics every 10 levels, starting at levels 20, 30, and so on. These changes are designed not only to ramp up the challenge but also to integrate seamlessly with the game's lore. Semiwork's developers have promised more details on how these mechanics will tie into the storyline in future updates.

In a unique move to gather direct player feedback, Semiwork's developers, including Pontus Sundstrom, participated incognito in random matches during the open beta. This hands-on approach allowed them to engage with players and understand what aspects of the game were enjoyable and what could be improved. Sundstrom shared, "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers," and added, "And I've been asking some questions and finding out what you guys find fun, stuff like that."

With the insights gained from the open beta, Semiwork is committed to enhancing REPO further. Players can anticipate more exciting updates in the near future, as the developers have pledged to keep the community informed.
