Nvidia's DLSS 4: 8X Performance Boost with Multi-Frame Generation

Nvidia revolutionizes gaming at CES 2025 with the launch of DLSS 4, a groundbreaking technology exclusively for the GeForce RTX 50 Series. This latest iteration introduces Multi-Frame Generation, boosting performance up to 8X.

DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), Nvidia's AI-powered upscaling technology, has consistently improved gaming visuals and performance for six years. DLSS 4 builds on this legacy, leveraging Tensor Cores to upscale lower-resolution images, resulting in sharper visuals and higher frame rates at reduced hardware strain.

DLSS 4's Multi-Frame Generation generates up to three extra frames per rendered frame. This translates to achieving 4K resolution at 240 FPS with full ray tracing, according to Nvidia. Furthermore, DLSS 4 integrates transformer-based AI models for real-time graphics rendering, enhancing image quality, temporal stability, and minimizing visual artifacts.

GeForce RTX 50 Series and Multi-Frame Generation:

The performance gains are achieved through hardware and software advancements. New AI models improve frame generation speed by 40%, reduce VRAM usage by 30%, and optimize rendering for lower computational costs. Hardware improvements, including Flip Metering and enhanced Tensor Cores, ensure smooth frame pacing and high-resolution compatibility. Games like Warhammer 40,000: Darktide already showcase improved frame rates and reduced memory usage. DLSS 4 also incorporates Ray Reconstruction and Super Resolution, utilizing vision transformers for highly detailed, stable visuals, especially in ray-traced scenes.

Backward Compatibility and Wide Game Support:

DLSS 4's enhancements are backward compatible. At launch, 75 games and applications support Multi-Frame Generation, and over 50 titles integrate the new transformer-based models. Major titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2 will have native support, with more to come. An Override feature in the Nvidia app enables Multi-Frame Generation and other improvements for older DLSS integrations.
