Bloodborne Fans Celebrate 10th Anniversary with Yharnam Return Event

by Jonathan Apr 25,2025

Today marks the 10th anniversary of *Bloodborne*, and the gaming community is buzzing with excitement as fans organize yet another "Return to Yharnam" event to celebrate. FromSoftware's iconic PlayStation 4 title, which launched on March 24, 2015, not only solidified the studio's reputation as a powerhouse in game development but also garnered widespread critical and commercial success. The game's impact was so profound that many expected a sequel or a remastered version to follow, similar to the successful *Dark Souls* series. Yet, a decade later, fans are still left wondering why Sony has not released a current-gen remaster, a sequel, or even a next-gen update to enable 60fps gameplay. The continued silence from Sony on this front is considered one of the most perplexing decisions in the gaming industry.

Earlier this year, some insight into this mystery came to light when Shuhei Yoshida, a revered figure in PlayStation's history, shared his thoughts after leaving Sony. In an interview with *Kinda Funny Games*, Yoshida emphasized that his views were purely speculative and not based on any insider knowledge. He suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the mastermind behind *Bloodborne* and the head of FromSoftware, might be reluctant to let anyone else work on the game due to his deep personal connection to it. Yoshida theorized that Miyazaki's busy schedule and his success with other projects, such as the blockbuster *Elden Ring* and its upcoming multiplayer spin-off, might be reasons for the lack of a *Bloodborne* follow-up. Yoshida stressed that this was just his personal theory, and he was not revealing any confidential information.

Miyazaki, indeed, has been occupied with directing multiple high-profile projects post-*Bloodborne*, including *Dark Souls 3*, *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and *Elden Ring*. While he often sidesteps questions about *Bloodborne* by pointing out that FromSoftware does not own the IP, he has acknowledged that the game could benefit from a release on more modern hardware. Despite this, Sony has remained tight-lipped on any plans for *Bloodborne*.

In the absence of official updates, fans and modders have stepped in to enhance the *Bloodborne* experience. However, Sony has been quick to act against these fan-made projects. Notably, modder Lance McDonald received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment for his 60fps patch, which he complied with by removing the links. Similarly, Lilith Walther faced copyright issues with her projects, *Nightmare Kart* and the *Bloodborne PSX demake*. Meanwhile, recent advancements in PS4 emulation have allowed players to experience *Bloodborne* at 60fps using the ShadPS4 emulator, a development covered by *Digital Foundry*. This breakthrough may have prompted Sony's aggressive stance, although IGN's request for comment from Sony went unanswered.

As a result, *Bloodborne* enthusiasts have taken matters into their own hands, organizing community events like the "Return to Yharnam" drive. On this 10th anniversary, fans are encouraged to start new characters, summon as many cooperators and invaders as possible, and leave messages signaling their participation in this community celebration. While these events keep the spirit of *Bloodborne* alive, fans continue to hope for an official update or sequel from Sony and FromSoftware.
