Swarm Faction Details Unveiled by Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Developers

Following the teaser reveal of the Swarm faction, the developers of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era from Unfrozen Studio have provided a deeper dive into this intriguing castle. They've shared insights into the inspirations behind the faction's creation, detailing how "Inferno" evolved into the "Swarm" and the unfolding events on the continent of Jadame.

The Swarm's defining trait is its remarkable adaptability to the enemy. Some of its creatures' abilities scale with the level of the opposing unit, dealing higher damage the greater the difference between the Swarm unit and its prey. Others, like mantises, can select one of three abilities to use each round, adding a strategic layer to combat. Additionally, creatures such as worms and locusts can devour corpses to heal and empower themselves—a skill that heroes can also learn, enhancing their survivability and effectiveness on the battlefield.

In Olden Era, the role traditionally filled by demonic forces has been reimagined as an insectoid race, previously only hinted at in Might & Magic 8. The developers have crafted the Swarm with a deep respect for the original lore, infusing it with elements of body horror and occultism. This faction transcends a mere insect colony, evolving into a cult devoted to a singular ruler. Each follower is part of a vast collective mind, existing solely to fulfill its master's will.

The gameplay mechanics of the Swarm revolve around its "mono-faction" system, where players gain significant advantages by using only Swarm units, as they synergize and enhance each other's capabilities. A unique feature is the ability to summon cocoons, whose health scales with the army's size. Once hatched, the larvae join the battle as temporary units, providing players with the flexibility to adapt to various combat scenarios.

The developers emphasize the Swarm's aggressive playstyle, where its creatures can devour corpses for healing and empowerment, and utilize abilities that dynamically adjust based on the enemy's strength. This approach offers players a fresh and dynamic combat strategy, focusing on direct confrontations and tactical adaptability.
