Sony Issues DMCA to Bloodborne 60fps Patch Creator: Timing Questioned

by Aria Apr 13,2025

The creator of the highly acclaimed Bloodborne 60fps patch, Lance McDonald, recently announced on Twitter that he has received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment. This action requires him to remove all links to the patch he previously shared online, and he has complied with the request. McDonald shared insights into his encounter with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, where he disclosed his work on the 60fps mod for Bloodborne, eliciting a humorous reaction from Yoshida.

Bloodborne, developed by FromSoftware and released on the PS4, remains a significant enigma in the gaming world. Despite its critical and commercial success, Sony has not revisited the game with an official next-gen update, leaving fans yearning for a 60fps patch, a remaster, or even a sequel. In the absence of official updates, enthusiasts like McDonald have filled the void. However, recent advancements in PS4 emulation by tech experts at Digital Foundry, showcasing a fully playable Bloodborne at 60fps via ShadPS4, may have prompted Sony's aggressive response. IGN has reached out to Sony for further comments on this matter.

In a recent interview with Kinda Funny Games, Yoshida shared his theory on why Bloodborne has not seen any updates or remasters. He suggested that Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game's creator, is deeply attached to Bloodborne and might be reluctant to let anyone else work on it due to his busy schedule with other successful projects. Yoshida emphasized that this was merely his personal speculation and not an insider revelation.

Despite nearly a decade passing since its initial release, Bloodborne remains untouched by official updates. While Miyazaki often sidesteps questions about the game's future, he has acknowledged that Bloodborne could benefit from being available on more modern hardware, sparking some hope among fans for future developments.
