All Difficulty Settings

Four difficulty levels are available in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, though initially only three are accessible. Players start with Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). Ultimate Warrior (very hard) unlocks after completing a faction's main scenario. While there's a trophy/achievement for completing a battle on Ultimate Warrior, campaign completion achievements aren't difficulty-dependent.

Which Difficulty Setting is Best?

Historian is the easiest, ideal for newcomers or those prioritizing story over challenge. Wayfarer provides a balanced experience suitable for most players, even those with limited Musou/Warriors experience. Hero is a better starting point for series veterans, while Ultimate Warrior is best suited for seasoned Musou masters seeking a significant challenge after unlocking it.

Players can adjust difficulty between battles via the config menu without affecting the story.

Difficulty Mode Differences

Historian simplifies combat; all enemy attacks are easily blocked, staggering enemies, building bravery, and filling the Musou Gauge is easier. Hero increases enemy strength and aggression, reduces parry/evade windows, and removes Meat Bun drops. Blocking depletes bravery, influencing army battles is more time-sensitive, and Skill Points/gold earned are reduced. Ultimate Warrior amplifies Hero's challenges with even tighter timing windows and significantly lower rewards.
