The Witcher 4: New Regions and Monsters Unveiled CD Projekt Red recently confirmed that The Witcher 4 will introduce players to entirely new regions and terrifying monsters, as revealed in an interview with Gamertag Radio.

Unveiling Stromford and the Bauk

A Glimpse into Stromford In a post-Game Awards 2024 interview (December 14, 2024) with Gamertag Radio, game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spilled the beans on the upcoming game's expansion. While Ciri follows in Geralt's footsteps, her journey leads her to uncharted territories on The Continent. The village showcased in the reveal trailer is named Stromford, a place where a disturbing ritual of sacrificing young girls to appease their "god" takes place.

Kalemba identified this "god" as Bauk, a formidable monster inspired by Serbian mythology. He described Bauk as a "tricky bastard" whose very presence instills terror. And Bauk is just the beginning; players can expect to face a host of brand-new monsters.

A Look at the New Monsters While Kalemba is enthusiastic about these new elements, he remains tight-lipped about the specifics, teasing, "You're on The Continent, but it's a completely new experience. I can't wait to show you, but I can't say more right now."

A subsequent interview with Skill UP (December 15, 2024) confirmed that Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far north, Ciri's adventures will extend beyond the areas explored by Geralt.

Revolutionizing The Witcher 4's NPCs

Enhanced NPC Interactions Returning to the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba highlighted the significant advancements in NPC development. Parris, the co-host, noted the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, contrasting it with the diverse NPCs shown in The Witcher 4's trailer. Kalemba explained that each NPC will have their own unique life and story, emphasizing the impact of community in an isolated village like Stromford on their interactions with Ciri and other characters.

Improved NPC Detail CD Projekt Red is enhancing the visual quality, behavior, and facial expressions of NPCs to create a more immersive experience. Kalemba stated their goal is to deliver an even more immersive experience than its predecessor.

While details remain scarce, the improvements to NPC interaction promise a richer and more believable world. For more on The Witcher 4, check out our dedicated article!
