Kojima Delighted to Complete Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
It's been a while since video games were more than just action-filled, nerve-wracking experiences. The mastermind behind Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima, introduced the themes of division and connection in Death Stranding during a pre-pandemic world. Its highly conceptual story structure and innovative delivery-centered movement mechanics opened new possibilities in gaming.
In its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, set to release on June 26, 2025, Kojima explores the question "Should we have connected?" in an even more complicated form. As the divisions in our world continue to grow, we wanted to understand Kojima's stance on this issue and how it influenced the game's narrative.
The development of Death Stranding 2 took place under the unprecedented circumstances of the Covid pandemic. This period forced Kojima to reconsider the meaning of "connection" and reconstruct it, taking into account his understanding of technology, production environments, and the nature of our relationships with one another.
In this interview, Kojima discusses his philosophy framing the game's production, what was left behind in the previous game and carried forward into the new one, and how contemporary society relates to his games.
