FBC: Firebreak Hits 1M Players, More Work Ahead

by Nathan Sep 24,2026

Remedy's Control spin-off shooter, FBC: Firebreak, has surpassed one million players. The game is free for Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers, yet the studio hailed this as a "significant milestone," while acknowledging "there is still a lot of work ahead of us."

"As of last night, we have crossed the one million player mark in FBC: Firebreak. This is a significant milestone, and we thank everyone playing from the entire team at Remedy," the studio announced in a social media post.

"We know there remains considerable work to do, and we are highly motivated to tackle it. Exciting updates are in the pipeline for Firebreak players! More details will follow soon."

Last week, the team noted issues with "the first hour experience," stating the opening gameplay fell short due to several factors. These included unclear onboarding, poorly explained systems and tools, and "a lack of clarity on objectives within Jobs and how to complete them efficiently." The developer added: "the power fantasy is lacking initially, with starting weapons feeling underwhelming and unlocking higher-tier weapons requiring excessive grinding."

"Currently, even when the narrative feels sparse, there's genuine fun in containing erratic creatures within Remedy's wonderfully absurd bureaucratic world," we noted in IGN's FBC: Firebreak review in progress. "I will play more this week and finalize the review once I've fully explored the limits of Remedy's chaotic cooperative job simulator."

Remedy also recently outlined its post-launch support roadmap, which includes two new Jobs (missions) slated for 2025, with further updates planned for 2026. All post-launch playable content, such as Jobs, will be free. Cosmetic items will be available for purchase, but these will not impact gameplay, and there will be no limited-time rotations or mandatory daily logins, Remedy confirmed.

It's a bustling period for Alan Wake developer Remedy, with multiple projects underway. Alongside FBC: Firebreak, the studio is developing Control 2 and the Max Payne and Max Payne 2 remake compilation.
