Celebrating Devarattam: A Digital Legacy

This application, a product of my "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" project, honors the rich tradition of Devarattam. I dedicate this app to Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman (retired teacher), Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimamani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti – recipients of the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards, respectively. My gratitude also extends to my Guru, Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the cherished legends of Devarattam.

This app aims to promote Devarattam and its esteemed awardees. It provides detailed information about the dance form and its prominent figures. Devarattam, a vibrant folk dance of Tamil Nadu, boasts a history spanning generations. The Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community has been instrumental in preserving and performing this dance, both historically and in contemporary times.

Devarattam involves a range of steps, from a foundational 32 to as many as 72, with variations built upon the core sequence. Performers gracefully execute these steps, each holding a kerchief and adorned with salangai anklets, accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the Deva Thunthumi musical instrument.
