Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Unveils Storyline Details

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – A New Look at Mira's Story

A fresh trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition offers deeper insights into the game's narrative and characters. The original 2015 Wii U release concluded with a significant cliffhanger, but this upcoming edition promises added story content, potentially resolving the unresolved ending.

The trailer, titled "The Year is 2054," features Elma, a key protagonist, recounting the events leading to humanity's arrival on the planet Mira. The footage showcases gameplay adapted for the Nintendo Switch, addressing the absence of the Wii U's GamePad functionality.

The Xenoblade Chronicles series, a JRPG franchise from Monolith Soft's Tetsuya Takahashi, is exclusive to Nintendo platforms. The first game's initial Japan-only release was overturned by the fan-driven Operation Rainfall campaign, bringing it to a Western audience. The series' success spawned sequels Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3, along with the spin-off Xenoblade Chronicles X. The Definitive Edition will make the entire series playable on the Nintendo Switch.

The trailer depicts Earth caught in an intergalactic conflict in 2054. A group of survivors escapes aboard the White Whale ark, seeking a new home. Their journey culminates in a crash landing on Mira, but the Lifehold – a crucial technology keeping most passengers in stasis – is lost. The player's mission is to locate the Lifehold before its power depletes.

Expanded Narrative and UI Changes

The Definitive Edition will introduce new story elements to address the original game's cliffhanger ending. Beyond the main BLADE mission of finding the Lifehold, players will explore Mira, deploy probes, and engage in battles to secure humanity's future.

The Wii U version heavily utilized the GamePad for mapping and various interactions. The Switch adaptation streamlines this, integrating the GamePad's functions into a dedicated menu. A mini-map now resides in the upper-right corner, aligning with other Xenoblade titles, and other UI elements have been repositioned on the main screen. The overall UI appears uncluttered, though these changes might subtly alter the gameplay experience compared to the original.
