'Oblivion' PC Performance Enhanced by Ultimate Engine Mod
If you're a PC player enjoying The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, you've likely encountered several performance issues.
Digital Foundry's technical analysis highlights "severe" performance problems in the PC version. Video producer Alex Battaglia described it as "potentially one of the poorest-performing titles I've evaluated for Digital Foundry."
"Even with top-tier hardware, the persistent stuttering is so disruptive that I can't comprehend how this version met release standards," Battaglia noted.
"Beyond the constant hitches, this is one of the most unnecessarily resource-demanding games I've tested. Players will need to lower settings just to maintain acceptable frame rates, even if they tolerate the stuttering," he added.
Unsurprisingly, the most popular Oblivion Remastered modification on Nexus Mods is P40L0's 'Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless),' amassing 386,604 downloads within its first week.
The modification's description states:
"Comprehensive Unreal Engine.ini adjustments designed to eliminate most stuttering, enhance performance and stability, reduce input latency, and improve visual clarity – all without compromising graphical quality."
"Following extensive UE5 testing, I'm sharing my definitive custom Engine.ini configurations," P40L0 explained.
"My objective was to incorporate maximum optimizations for CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD performance. These changes address stuttering, boost frame rates, decrease input delay, and enhance image quality by removing film grain and chromatic aberration while optimizing DLSS/FSR upscaling – all without visual degradation or stability issues."

User feedback for the mod has been overwhelmingly positive. "Stuttering completely eliminated! Incredible work, thank you!" exclaimed chubbyd07. "This configuration file works miracles. My frame rate jumped from 15-20 fps outside the prison to a stable 65-70 fps on my 3600XT and 2060 setup with 20GB RAM," reported yeeto51. "This is unbelievable! My performance increased from 60fps to 90-110fps in Waynon Priory using the same High settings. Pure wizardry!" praised BabaSmith.
Despite the PC version's technical challenges, Oblivion Remastered maintains strong popularity with impressive Steam concurrent player peaks and over 4 million players across all platforms. The Steam version currently holds a 'Very Positive' user review rating.
However, an April 25th hotfix introduced complications for Microsoft Store users, affecting graphics settings related to upscaling and anti-aliasing. As of publication, Game Pass for PC players cannot adjust these settings due to interface issues. Bethesda has acknowledged the problem and is working on a solution.
