Space Marine 2 Devs Enable Modding, Community Adds Tau, Necrons, and Fishing Mini-Game

Fans of *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2* are thrilled after the game's developers, Saber Interactive, unlocked a treasure trove of creative potential by releasing their internal editor to modders. This move has sparked excitement that the game could enjoy a long-lasting life, much like the iconic *Skyrim*, fueled by user-generated content.

Game director Dmitry Grigorenko shared the exciting news on the Space Marine 2 modding Discord, calling it "our biggest milestone yet in supporting the modding community." The newly released official Integration Studio is the very same tool used by the developers for crafting all aspects of gameplay. This initial release empowers modders to delve into level scenarios, game modes, AI behavior, abilities, melee combos, UI, HUD elements, and much more, streamlining the modding process for *Space Marine 2*.

Grigorenko emphasized their commitment to the modding scene, saying, "Not long ago, I promised we would support the modding scene — and we meant it. Watching this community grow, push boundaries, and create incredible experiences has been both inspiring and humbling. We’re excited to see what you build next — whether it’s a cinematic campaign, wild new game mode, or something we never saw coming."

To ignite the modders' creativity, Grigorenko shared a humorous concept art of a "Fishing With Daddy Calgar" mini-game, featuring Marneus Calgar, the leader of the Ultramarines chapter. This playful challenge has set off a race among the community to create the first fishing mini-game mod for *Space Marine 2*.

To gauge the community's plans, I spoke with Tom, known as *Warhammer Workshop*, the mastermind behind the *Astartes Overhaul* mod for *Space Marine 2*. Tom, who recently released a mod enabling 12-player co-op, now has access to all the scripting tools that govern mission dynamics, weapons, and abilities. He envisions the potential for a roguelite mode where players start with just a combat knife and face progressively tougher enemies, with chances to obtain weapons and health upon defeating foes. "Killing a Carnifex might grant you a Heavy Bolter," Tom suggested.

While a new cinematic campaign featuring Chaos is within reach, Tom noted that cutscenes are challenging due to the lack of animation tools for modders. However, he is currently working on introducing new factions like the Tau and Necrons, thanks to available rigs. Meanwhile, the community is eagerly working on the "Fishing With Daddy Calgar" mini-game mod as a fun challenge.

The reaction from *Space Marine 2* fans has been overwhelmingly positive. Although the game has been a commercial success and critically acclaimed, it initially offered only three factions: Space Marines, Chaos, and the Tyranids. With the modding tools now in hand, fans can expand the game's universe, fulfilling hopes for additional factions like the Necrons, which were hinted at in the campaign.
