PC Gamers Slam 'Ready or Not' as Censored for Consoles

by Sophia Nov 14,2025

Ready or Not, the tactical FPS by VOID Interactive, is facing a wave of negative Steam reviews after modifications were made to accommodate its upcoming console launch.

In an official statement on Steam, VOID explained that adjustments to violence levels, gore, nudity, and depictions involving minors were necessary for the July 15 console release. Rather than maintaining separate builds – which could introduce technical issues – certain PC version elements were also updated.

"During this porting process, we've strictly limited changes to those mandated by platform partners while preserving the game's core tone," the developers assured. "There's no cause for concern."

"Our console ratings (ESRB M, PEGI 18, USK 18) remain unchanged. However, platform-specific content requirements mean some alterations will appear in the PC version as well," they clarified.

The studio noted that while simple texture swaps allowed PC preservation, more complex changes – like altering character models – proved impractical across versions.

Key modifications include: limiting post-mortem dismemberment (live combat remains unaffected), reducing torture/nudity, and replacing a child's convulsive animation with a subdued unconscious state.

"Most players wouldn't notice these console-required changes without being told," VOID stated, emphasizing transparency. "Primarily affecting evidence/nudity elements, with no texture impact on PC gameplay."

The updates have sparked backlash from portions of the PC community.

"Avoid purchasing this censored version," one reviewer argued. "VOID capitalized on PC players' support, then compromised the game's vision for console market approval."

"UNACCEPTABLE CENSORSHIP!" another protested. "No justification exists for altering mature content. This lazy approach betrays consumers who paid for the original 18+ experience!"

Ready or Not faces review bombing on Steam.

While maintaining a 'Very Positive' overall Steam rating, recent reviews have dipped to 'Mixed' following the controversy. VOID hasn't publicly addressed the criticism at this time. IGN has reached out for comment.

This isn't the game's first controversy – in 2022 it was temporarily removed due to a trademark dispute involving a nightclub shooting level released on the Pulse tragedy anniversary.

VOID also severed ties with publisher Team17 shortly after announcing plans for a school shooting scenario.
