Nvidia RTX 5060 Released: Consider Waiting Before Buying

Nvidia officially unveiled the GeForce RTX 5060 alongside the RTX 5060 Ti in April 2025, but it's now officially available to the public following a major announcement at Computex. As the more budget-friendly option of the current GPU lineup, the RTX 5060 starts at $299, offering solid performance for 1080p gaming and making it an attractive choice for mainstream gamers.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 packs 3,840 CUDA cores spread across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs), delivering enough power to handle modern titles at Full HD resolution. According to Nvidia, this card can achieve impressive frame rates—like hitting up to 223 fps in *Doom: The Dark Ages* at 1080p with ultra settings, especially when Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) is set to 4x. This feature remains one of the standout innovations in the latest generation of graphics cards.

Despite being the entry-level model in the RTX 50-series, the RTX 5060 fully supports DLSS 4 technology, including Multi-Frame Generation. However, given its 30 SM configuration, there are still limitations on how much performance uplift these AI-driven features can provide in practice.

It’s also important to note that while the $299 MSRP serves as the starting point, not all models will stick to that price. Some variants may cost significantly more due to added features like factory overclocking, enhanced cooling solutions, or RGB lighting. These extras can improve aesthetics or thermal performance, but they come at a premium.

Reviews Are Coming—But Not Right Away

Even though the RTX 5060 is relatively affordable, especially compared to higher-tier Blackwell GPUs, it's wise to wait for independent reviews before making a purchase decision. While Nvidia has made bold claims about performance, most of these figures rely heavily on Multi-Frame Generation, and real-world results without such enhancements remain uncertain.

Unlike previous launches such as the RTX 5090, Nvidia has opted not to provide early review drivers for the press. As a result, comprehensive performance analysis and benchmark comparisons won’t be available immediately after launch. Gamers should expect to wait a few days before third-party testing data surfaces.

Based on what we know so far, the RTX 5060 appears to offer a generational performance boost similar to what was seen with the RTX 5070 over its predecessor. In games using frame generation and ray tracing, Nvidia claims performance could nearly double. However, in traditional rasterization-based workloads without those features, the gain is closer to 20%—and even that may represent best-case conditions.

As with any high-cost tech purchase, it’s always recommended to wait for verified reviews before buying. While the RTX 5060 looks promising on paper, actual performance metrics and user experiences will give a clearer picture of its true value once they become available.
