DOOM: The Dark Ages Will Introduce Its Own Marauder

by Jonathan Mar 15,2025

Prepare for Agadon the Hunter, a brand-new enemy replacing the Marauder in DOOM: The Dark Ages. This isn't just a souped-up Marauder; Agadon is a completely unique foe, blending the best (or worst, depending on your perspective!) attributes of several previous bosses. He dodges, evades, and even deflects projectiles, demanding a high skill level from the Doom Slayer. Expect a diverse arsenal of combo attacks that will push your abilities to their limits, necessitating skillful use of a sawtooth shield—a clear nod to the *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice* influence on the developers’ design. This encounter will serve as the ultimate test of everything you've learned throughout the game, a final, brutal exam.

The decision to replace the Marauder with a similarly challenging boss wasn't made lightly. The developers believe players are ready for another significant hurdle, but acknowledge past criticisms. The problem with the Marauder wasn't the difficulty itself, but its abrupt introduction and lack of adequate explanation.

Many mechanics crucial to defeating the Marauder were previously unused in the campaign, leading to player frustration due to the sudden shift in gameplay pace. DOOM: The Dark Ages aims to address this with a smoother introduction of mechanics and better player preparation.

DOOM: The Dark Ages launches May 15, 2025, on current-gen consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S) and PC (Steam).
