The upcoming Narnia reboot helmed by Barbie writer-director Greta Gerwig continues expanding its star-studded cast with Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan joining the ensemble. The Hollywood Reporter confirms Mulligan's involvement alongside previously announced cast members including former James Bond Daniel Craig, Sex Education breakout Emma Mackey, and screen legend Meryl Streep.

Gerwig will bring her distinctive creative vision to C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy universe, serving as both writer and director for this fresh interpretation of The Chronicles of Narnia.

The film will adapt The Magician's Nephew, the series' origin story that predates the events of the most famous installment, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Mulligan, known for her acclaimed performances in films like Promising Young Woman and The Great Gatsby, is reportedly cast as Mabel Kirke - mother to the story's young protagonist Digory.

Craig will portray the enigmatic magician Uncle Andrew, while Mackey will bring to life a younger incarnation of the White Witch. Streep lends her iconic voice to Aslan, Narnia's divine lion protector. This marks a new chapter for the franchise following the 2005-2010 film trilogy that adapted Lewis' first three novels.

Gerwig's Narnia project represents her first major directorial effort since the phenomenal success of 2023's Barbie, which earned $1.4 billion worldwide and multiple Oscar nominations. Production on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is currently aiming for a 2026 theatrical release.
