Koi-Koi is a beloved Japanese card game for two players, using a special deck called Hanafuda. It is one of the most popular ways to play with these traditional Japanese playing cards.

The goal is to create specific card combinations, known as "yaku," faster than your opponent. The term "koi-koi," meaning "come on" or "keep going" in Japanese, is called out when a player decides to continue the round to aim for more points.

To score, players aim to form yaku by collecting matching cards. Cards are added to your point pile by matching a card from your hand, or one drawn from the deck, with a card on the table. After forming a yaku, you can choose to end the hand and claim your points, or risk a "koi-koi" to build additional yaku for a higher score. The individual point values on the cards do not directly determine the score but are useful for evaluating their potential in completing yaku.
