The future of MultiVersus hangs in the balance, with Season 5 potentially being its last hurrah if it fails to revive player interest. This comes from AusilMV, a reputable leaker known for their accurate game insights.

A source close to the development team reportedly indicated that Season 5 is a final attempt to salvage the game. While currently just a rumor, the situation is undeniably precarious.

The game's initial launch in 2022 saw phenomenal success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent Steam players. However, a dramatic 99% player drop-off led Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, framing it as an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates followed in May 2024, but the game hasn't regained its previous popularity.

Season 5, launching in early February, represents a make-or-break moment for the developers. This relaunched version effectively restarts the game, though the original 2022 release was retrospectively labeled a "beta." Despite initial player enthusiasm, the March 2023 announcement of a temporary June shutdown angered many, particularly those who purchased the premium edition.
