The Voodoo Doll offers a potentially favorable risk-reward ratio among Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia. Although game updates have altered some of its benefits, it remains a viable option.

Its primary function is to provoke the ghost into revealing evidence. This is achieved by sequentially inserting pins into the doll. This is particularly useful when dealing with unresponsive or elusive ghosts, forcing them to manifest evidence like EMF5 readings or UV fingerprints.

Ten pins can be inserted, each reducing the user's sanity by 5%. Inserting all pins depletes 50% sanity, significantly increasing the risk of a ghost hunt.

The critical risk lies in the heart pin. Pin insertion is random; hitting the heart pin triggers an immediate Cursed Hunt, decreasing sanity by 10% and initiating a prolonged (20 seconds longer) ghost hunt near the user's location.

Despite the inherent risks, the Voodoo Doll's potential for evidence gathering can be worthwhile with proper preparation.

Cursed Possessions (often called "Cursed Objects") are unique items randomly spawning on any Phasmophobia map, although their appearance depends on difficulty and Challenge Mode participation.

Unlike standard equipment, which minimizes risk while gathering evidence, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate the ghost but at a significantly higher risk to the player character.

The risk varies between objects, and the decision to use them rests with the player(s). No penalty exists for not using them. Only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless modified in Custom settings).

Seven Cursed Objects exist:

  • Haunted Mirror
  • Voodoo Doll
  • Music Box
  • Tarot Cards
  • Ouija Board
  • Monkey Paw
  • Summoning Circle
