Ubisoft Scraps Early Access for Assassin's Creed Shadows

During a recent Discord Q&A session, Ubisoft announced the cancellation of Assassin's Creed Shadows' planned early access period. Originally, early access was set as a perk for Collector's Edition purchasers, but now all players must wait for the game's official February 14, 2025 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Alongside this announcement, Ubisoft revealed additional changes including:

  • Elimination of season passes
  • $50 price reduction for the Collector's Edition (now $230)
  • All physical Collector's Edition bonuses remain unchanged

Industry reports suggest Ubisoft Quebec may be developing a cooperative mode allowing dual play as protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. However, this remains unconfirmed by official sources.

Insider Gaming sources indicate the early access cancellation stems from Ubisoft's continued challenges with historical accuracy and cultural representation concerns, which also contributed to the delayed release date. Additional development time is reportedly being allocated to polish the game further.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Development Team Disbanded

Ubisoft has dissolved the Montpellier-based development team behind the critically acclaimed Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown just months after release, French outlet Origami reports. Despite strong critical reception, the company reportedly made this decision due to disappointing sales performance.

Senior producer Abdelhak Elguess told IGN:

  • "We're extremely proud of our team's work on this critically praised title"
  • The game has completed its post-launch roadmap with four content updates
  • A Mac version remains scheduled for winter release
  • Most team members have transitioned to new projects

"Ubisoft remains committed to the Prince of Persia franchise," Elguess added, hinting at future installments while acknowledging players' enduring connection to the series.
