Tekken 8 Season 2 Sparks Outrage, Pros Threaten Exit

by Lucas Jan 09,2026

The Tekken 8 community has expressed strong disapproval following the controversial Season 2 update, which introduced a series of divisive changes.

According to the patch notes, character damage potential and offensive pressure received universal buffs, leading some players to argue that Tekken 8 has drifted too far from the series' traditional gameplay.

Professional Tekken player JoKa remarked that the Season 2 update makes the game feel completely different, stating, "this does not feel like Tekken AT ALL."

"Giving even minor buffs to characters is not the right direction, especially when combined with more stance transitions that amplify 50/50 scenarios. Many of the newly added moves are overpowered, offering little to no counterplay. Patching out character weaknesses and stripping away their unique identities through homogenization reflects lazy balancing. Additionally, the gutting of oki situations while further buffing the Heat system makes little sense. Combo damage is excessive across the entire roster. While sidestepping feels improved, does it really matter when moves feature excessive tracking and hitboxes? Chip damage remains overly punishing, as most Heat Smashes remain unchanged. Prioritizing 50/50 situations over strategic depth does not create engaging gameplay and deviates from the core foundations of Tekken.

“What happened to the defensive options that were promised?"

As anticipated, players are voicing their frustration on Tekken 8's Steam page. The game has been flooded with negative reviews (over 1,100 in the past two days), resulting in a 'Mostly Negative' recent user rating.

"A genuinely good game held back by erratic and seemingly irrational developers," states the current top-rated 'Most Helpful' review.

Another review notes, "The new season turned every character into a mindless mix-up machine without strengthening defensive tools."

A different negative review adds, "Despite promising to improve defensive options, the balance team has reinforced overly powerful offense, stripping defenders of any meaningful agency."

"Not every character should constantly force 50/50 situations, yet it appears the balance team lacks alternative approaches to character design. It’s disappointing to see another legacy fighting game become dominated by aggressive offense, leaving defenders with limited response options."

Many longtime Tekken fans are so dissatisfied that they are switching to Capcom's Street Fighter 6. Some are calling Season 2 the "worst patch in Tekken history," with professional players even threatening to abandon Tekken 8 entirely.

Now, the community is calling for the development team to address these widespread concerns. Some are demanding a full rollback of the patch, while others are urging an emergency update to implement critical adjustments.
