Split Fiction: Co-op Adventure Nears 4 Million Sales

by Andrew May 20,2025

Hazelight's beloved co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has achieved a remarkable milestone by selling nearly four million copies. Publisher EA highlighted this achievement in their recent financial report, describing the game as a "hugely successful launch" and crediting it as a key factor in their strong financial performance for the 2025 fiscal year.

In an excited social media post, Hazelight celebrated the news, stating, "4 MILLION SOLD!!!!". They expressed their gratitude and joy, saying, "So many of you have picked up Split Fiction already, it’s amazing… Seeing the fun you have with our game and the love you show for Mio, Zoe, and each other warms our hearts here at Hazelight. And so many hot dogs made…"

Split Fiction immerses players in the diverse worlds crafted by two fiction writers, offering a groundbreaking co-op experience where only one player needs to own the game. Launched in March, the game quickly became another hit for Hazelight and its designer, Josef Fares, achieving over two million sales within just one week. It is also set to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2 as Hazelight continues to develop their next project.

Additionally, a film adaptation of Split Fiction is in development by Story Kitchen, known for their work on the Sonic films. They are currently assembling a team of writers, a director, and a cast that will include Sydney Sweeney.

In our IGN Split Fiction review, we described the game as "an expertly crafted and absorbing co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another." We praised it as "a rollercoaster of gameplay ideas and styles that are usually discarded as quickly as they’re introduced," noting that this approach keeps the game "fabulously fresh for its full, 14-hour duration."
