"Saros: Housemarque's New Game Post-Returnal, Set for 2026"

by Ava May 08,2025

Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the much-anticipated sequel to their 2022 roguelite hit Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5, with enhancements tailored for the PS5 Pro, Saros promises to captivate fans once again. The game features Rahul Kohli and introduces players to Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for truth on a perilous, ever-changing planet, haunted by an eclipse and a formidable entity.

Showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros exudes the quintessential Housemarque flair. The narrative of a character returning stronger, coupled with intense bullet-hell combat, unmistakably echoes the spirit of Returnal. Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach, emphasizing a new single-player experience that builds on the third-person action of Returnal.

While Saros retains the core essence of its predecessor, it introduces significant gameplay distinctions. According to Louden's insights on the PlayStation Blog, Saros will feature permanent resources and progression, allowing players to upgrade their weapons and suits permanently. Although the world shifts with each death, these upgrades offer a fresh twist on the roguelite formula.

Housemarque plans to reveal more details and an extended gameplay look later this year, building anticipation for what promises to be a thrilling addition to the PlayStation lineup.
