Jacksepticeye's Unannounced Soma Animated Show Falls Apart Unexpectedly

YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, has recently shared in a video titled 'A Bad Month' that he spent a year working on an animated show based on the survival horror game Soma, only to see it fall through, leaving him deeply upset. Soma, developed by Frictional Games, the creators of the Amnesia series, was released in 2015 and received widespread critical acclaim. Jacksepticeye, a known fan of the game, extensively streamed it upon its release and frequently cites it as one of his top video game experiences.

In his video, Jacksepticeye discusses a challenging period creatively, marked by several project cancellations and delays. He revealed the Soma animated project, expressing his passion for the game and his excitement about bringing its story to a broader audience through animation. He mentioned collaborating with the game's developers for a year and being ready to enter full production. However, the project unexpectedly collapsed after an unnamed party decided to take it in a "different direction," a decision that left Jacksepticeye quite upset and reluctant to delve into the specifics of what went wrong.

The cancellation of the Soma animated show has significantly disrupted Jacksepticeye's plans for 2025. He had intended to focus much of his year on this project, which would have limited his content uploads but promised a rewarding creative endeavor to share with his fans. Since the release of Soma, Frictional Games has continued to expand the Amnesia franchise with titles like Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In July 2023, following the release of Amnesia: The Bunker, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip announced the studio's intention to shift focus from horror to explore other emotional qualities in their games, aiming to provide immersive experiences beyond just horror.
