Gran Saga Shutting Down Next Month

by Ellie Apr 26,2025

NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, signaling the end of its brief international journey. The game's services will cease on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases (IAPs) along with new downloads have already been disabled.

Originally launched in Japan in 2021 to great acclaim, Gran Saga's global version was released in November 2024. However, it only managed to last for six months before the decision was made to shut it down.

The primary reason for this closure appears to be financial instability and the challenge of sustaining the service. While Gran Saga made a strong impression at first, it failed to secure a significant presence in the highly competitive global market.

The genre is dominated by well-established games with loyal followings, making it extremely difficult for newcomers to succeed without offering something truly innovative. Despite its success in Japan, Gran Saga couldn't replicate that momentum on a global scale, resulting in an early termination.

ytThis closure adds to the growing list of gacha RPGs that have recently shut down. Just last month, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, and it's not the only one. Many others have also succumbed to the pressures of an oversaturated market. With so many options available, players often stick with familiar titles, making it challenging for new or niche games to maintain long-term viability.

For those who have made purchases recently, you can request refunds until May 30th. However, refunds may not be possible if you have already used your purchases or due to other store policies.

If you were a player in Ethprozen, this farewell is undoubtedly disappointing, but it's an increasingly common occurrence in the mobile gaming industry.
