In the highly anticipated game, Assassin's Creed Shadows, players have the exciting opportunity to embody one of two distinct protagonists: the stealthy female shinobi, Naoe, and the historical African samurai, Yasuke. The inclusion of Yasuke has already ignited significant discussion within the gaming community, even before the game's official release. Concerns have arisen among fans about potentially missing out on crucial story elements or unique gameplay experiences if they choose to focus primarily on one character over the other.

Jonathan Dumont, the creative director behind Assassin's Creed Shadows, has directly addressed these concerns, offering insights into his own balanced approach to gameplay. Dumont shared, "I tend to switch between characters fairly evenly. For example, I might spend 3-5 hours with one protagonist, then switch and play another 2-3 hours with the second." Despite his personal approach, Dumont reassures players that opting to focus on a single protagonist won't lead to significant content loss.

He further explained that while each character boasts exclusive opening sequences and personal story arcs, the game's design is inherently adaptable to the player's choice. Dumont encourages players to follow their preferences, stating, "I don’t believe you’ll miss out on a lot. It really comes down to your personal playstyle. You might think, 'Alright, I’ll see how the game adjusts based on which character I pick.' Each hero has their own unique introductions and dedicated questlines, but the core experience is flexible. You can choose your favorite, and the narrative will adapt accordingly."
