Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has reached the end of its epic journey with the release of Patch 8, the game's final major update, on April 15, 2025. This monumental update from Larian Studios has sparked renewed interest in the RPG, catapulting its player count from around 60,000 to over 169,000 concurrent players. This surge has positioned BG3 just outside of Steam's top 10 most played games.

Larian Studios' CEO, Swen Vincke, shared his thoughts on Twitter (X) on April 22, celebrating the player increase and highlighting the robust mod support that allows the studio to shift focus toward their next project. It's been confirmed that Larian Studios will step away from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) universe to explore new creative horizons.

With Larian Studios moving on, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, the owners of D&D, are actively seeking new partners to potentially develop a Baldur’s Gate 4, ensuring the franchise's future.

First announced in November 2024 via a Steam blog post, Patch 8 has been eagerly anticipated. It introduces 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and a host of other features.
