Rumor: The First Specs Of The Nvidia RTX 5090 Have Leaked
Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Draw
Leaked specifications suggest Nvidia's upcoming GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card will feature a substantial 32GB of GDDR7 video memory—double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. This high-performance card will, however, demand a significant 575W power supply. The official unveiling of the RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5090, is scheduled for Nvidia's CES keynote on January 6th, 2025.
The RTX 50 series, codenamed Blackwell, represents Nvidia's next-generation graphics card lineup, arriving more than two years after the RTX 40 series launch. Leveraging Nvidia's Tensor Cores for AI processing, the series will incorporate DLSS upscaling, ray tracing, and PCIe 5.0 support (on compatible motherboards). This new generation succeeds the RTX 40 series, some models of which (RTX 4090D and RTX 4070) have been discontinued by Nvidia. The RTX 50 series will directly compete with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.
Pre-CES leaks, initially reported by VideoCardz, showcased Inno3D's iChill X3 RTX 5090. This triple-fan card occupies over three expansion slots. Packaging confirmed the 32GB GDDR7 memory and the substantial 575W power draw, a considerable increase from the RTX 4090's 450W.
The RTX 5090's High Memory, High Cost
The RTX 5090's impressive 32GB GDDR7 memory comes at a price. Inno3D's leak confirmed both the memory capacity and the high 575W power requirement, necessitating a robust power supply. Nvidia's official announcement at CES will include pricing details, but initial estimates suggest an MSRP exceeding $1999. The RTX 50 series will use a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be provided.
The RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti will also be revealed alongside the RTX 5090 during Nvidia's CES keynote on January 6th at 9:30 PM Eastern Time. The next generation of Nvidia graphics cards promises significant performance gains, but their ultimate reception by consumers remains to be seen.
