World of Warcraft is set to enhance its gameplay with Patch 11.1, introducing two exciting new types of races: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races featuring Goblin jetpacks. These innovative races replace traditional Skyriding races in the new Undermine zone, which is part of the first major content update for World of Warcraft: The War Within.
Patch 11.1, dubbed "Undermined," transports players to Undermine, a vast subterranean metropolis and the bustling capital city of the Goblins. Despite its expansive nature, flying is prohibited within the zone. Instead, players will navigate using the D.R.I.V.E. system, a dynamic and customizable mount-like car designed to zip through the city's streets at exhilarating speeds. The introduction of Breakneck races showcases the full potential of the D.R.I.V.E. system, promising thrilling challenges for racers.
In addition to the Breakneck races, Patch 11.1 introduces Skyrocket races, where players don Goblin jetpacks to soar through the skies. These races offer a unique movement style that blends aspects of existing flight systems. Unlike Steady flight, where players can stop in mid-air, Skyrocket racers maintain momentum and altitude akin to Skyriding but cannot pause. As demonstrated by WoW content creator MrGM during Public Test Realm sessions, collecting rings during these races increases speed, yet the faster the jetpack goes, the less responsive the steering becomes, adding a layer of complexity and challenge to the races.
New Skyrocket Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
Due to the absence of Skyriding in Undermine, traditional Skyriding races are unavailable. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer achievements for completing races at Bronze, Silver, and Gold times. Additionally, reverse versions of all Skyrocket and Breakneck races are included, although there are no Advanced or Challenge courses as seen in some Skyriding races.
All Skyrocket and Breakneck Races in World of Warcraft Patch 11.1
Skyrocket | Breakneck |
---|---|
Skyrocketing Sprint | Breakneck Bolt |
The Heaps Leap | Junkyard Jaunt |
Scrapshop Shot | Casino Cruise |
Rags to Riches Run | Sandy Scuttle |
The initial reception to the Skyrocket races has been varied. While many fans are eager to experience this new feature, others have expressed concerns about the jetpacks' stiff and less reactive flight compared to Skyriding. Fortunately, as Patch 11.1 remains in development, there is ample time for Blizzard to refine these races before their anticipated release in February.
