How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To romance Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you'll need to break the Fire Seal in the mines. This seal is located on Floor 60, where you must offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot.

Upon completing the offering, a cutscene triggers where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave the area or risk being sealed with the Sealing Scroll. As your character's health depletes, Caldarus arrives, transforming into his human form. He gifts you the Dragon's Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. In this new form, you can interact with Caldarus daily, giving gifts and engaging in conversation just as you would with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria.

After breaking the Fire Seal, you'll find Caldarus exclusively at his temple in the Deep Woods. Use the Dragon's Breath spell to permanently unlock this area on your map.

Caldarus' Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus starts with six hearts upon being unlocked as a romanceable character. This is currently the heart level cap, meaning there are no heart events for Caldarus in Fields of Mistria at this time. However, more events are expected in future updates.

Currently, there are a few cutscenes involving Caldarus. The first, a dream sequence at the game's start, introduces you to Mistria's magic system and in-game mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus saves you from being sealed and reveals his human form before retreating to recover his strength in the Deep Woods. Both scenes are part of the natural story progression.

Following the March 2025 update, you can also initiate a date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, an in-game event on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, offering a chance to take any romanceable NPC with at least four hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. With Caldarus' fixed heart level of six hearts, you're automatically eligible to go with him. To attend the festival with Caldarus, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterward to confirm you're ready to start the event, triggering a cutscene of your date. Spoilers ahead!

At the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation and shares insights on the stars and the tradition of Starbinding. Your conversation delves into the nature of connections and the role of villains in stories, hinting at deeper narrative elements. As fatigue sets in, Caldarus invites you to watch the stars from his temple for the rest of the evening.
