"Switch 2 to Sell Out at Launch, Analysts Say; June Release Eyed"

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is a major talking point in the gaming world. According to analysts speaking with IGN, the next-gen console is expected to hit the market at a starting price of $400. This prediction is further supported by a Bloomberg report, which cites Japan-focused analysts. This $400 price tag would mark a notable increase from the original Switch, with one analyst suggesting to Bloomberg that Nintendo might even consider pushing the price up to $499. However, regardless of the final price, analysts are confident that the Switch 2 will see an enormous launch, potentially becoming the biggest console launch ever.

Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg, “They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price.” This confidence stems from the anticipated demand for the console's launch lineup of games. Toto expects a new Mario Kart, as hinted by Nintendo, a new 3D Mario game, and the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 to all launch within the Switch 2’s first year. Additionally, third-party support is expected to be robust, with Activision potentially bringing Call of Duty to the platform.

There is a long list of rumored third-party titles coming to the console. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis found the Switch 2’s apparent Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." French video game and accessories maker Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has stated it has Switch 2 games ready to go. The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be set for Switch 2. Last month, EA mentioned that Madden, FC, and The Sims would all be a great fit for the Switch 2. It's important to note, however, that Activision has yet to announce its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has not commented on the report.

The expected release date for the Switch 2 is increasingly pinpointed to June 2025, with discussions not only online but within gaming media circles. Japan-based analyst Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein told Bloomberg that the Switch 2 is set to release in June, with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. If these units sell out quickly, the Switch 2 could outpace its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5, setting new sales records.

Concerns have been raised about the potential impact of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff war on the Nintendo Switch 2's price. The Trump administration has introduced new tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, leading analysts to warn gamers of possible price increases and supply issues for video games and consoles. However, Bloomberg noted that the Switch 2 will be assembled in Vietnam, a major U.S. trading partner, as well as in China. This diversified manufacturing approach is believed to mitigate risks for Nintendo.

Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. Unlike the original Switch, which used rails for Joy-Con attachment, the new controllers use magnets, allowing them to be attached on either side.

While this change might not significantly impact the hardware, it will allow players to customize the positioning of certain buttons and the headphone port. If implemented, the ability to flip the controllers could introduce innovative gameplay mechanics.
