"Stellar Blade PC Version Set for 2025 Release"
Get ready, PC gamers! After captivating audiences on PlayStation since its launch in April, Stellar Blade is set to make its way to your desktops in 2025. Dive into the details of this much-anticipated PC release.
Stellar Blade is Coming to PC in 2025
The buzz about Stellar Blade's PC release began in June when SHIFT UP's CFO Jaewoo Ahn hinted at the possibility during the company's IPO press conference. Today, the wait is over as SHIFT UP officially announced that the sci-fi action game will hit PC platforms in 2025.
In response to questions about "platform expansion" during their latest financial earnings report, SHIFT UP confirmed their plans for a PC release, citing the booming PC gaming market, particularly on Steam, and the success of similar titles like Black Myth: Wukong. While a specific release date remains under wraps, SHIFT UP is focused on maintaining the game's popularity through strategic moves like a collaboration DLC with Platinum Game's NieR: Automata and the introduction of a Photo Mode, both set to launch on November 20, along with ongoing marketing efforts.
Stellar Blade joins the ranks of high-profile PlayStation exclusives transitioning to PC, following in the footsteps of titles like God of War Ragnarök and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. However, this move brings a notable concern: the potential requirement for a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to play on PC.
As a title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, with SHIFT UP becoming a second-party developer for Sony in 2023, there's a likelihood that Stellar Blade will necessitate a PSN account link on Steam. This could pose a barrier for players in over 170 countries without PSN access, limiting the game's reach on PC.
Sony's rationale for this requirement, as articulated by CFO Hiroki Totoki, is to ensure "safe" enjoyment of their live-service games. Yet, this policy extends to single-player experiences like the Horizon series, sparking debate over its necessity for games like Stellar Blade.
While it's unclear if Stellar Blade will indeed require a PSN account on PC, given that SHIFT UP retains ownership of the IP, there's a chance they might choose a different approach. However, if a PSN account is needed, it could impact the game's potential to surpass its console sales, as SHIFT UP aims for in their financial projections.
