Squad Busters 2.0 Hits Android Ahead of Anniversary

Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary, and Supercell is launching its major 2.0 update. The game's most significant revamp to date arrives on May 13th. Since its release in 2024, the game hasn't achieved the player base the developers had envisioned. So, will version 2.0 turn things around?

This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two

Squad Busters 2.0 represents more of a soft reboot, as the name implies. From the core battle mechanics to how victories are secured, the game is fundamentally changing direction.

The most notable shift involves the heroes. You now select a Hero to lead your squad. These Heroes are adapted from existing characters, and if your Hero is defeated, it's game over.

Another fundamental change is to the combat system. You no longer have to stand still to attack. Movement and fighting are now seamlessly integrated, creating matches that are faster-paced, more aggressive, and overall more chaotic.

The win conditions have also been altered. Instead of eliminating every opponent on the map, you only need to defeat the enemy Hero. Some players are viewing this change with skepticism, as it appears to resemble a Brawl Stars spin-off with additional complexity.

Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features

Game modes like Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder are being removed. Some legacy skins and progression systems are also being retired, with Supercell offering Hero Points and other items as compensation.

It's clear why Supercell is implementing these changes so rapidly. Squad Busters hasn't reached the iconic status of titles like Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.

With this major update and the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell is clearly aiming to re-energize the community. A series of daily piñata events will also begin soon to mark the occasion, offering players opportunities to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.
