Splitgate 2: Portal-Inspired Shooter Unveils Sequel
Splitgate 2: The Highly Anticipated Sequel Arrives in 2025
1047 Games, the creators of the popular "Halo meets Portal" shooter Splitgate, has announced a sequel! Dive into the Sol Splitgate League and discover a fresh take on fast-paced portal-powered combat.
Launching in 2025: A Familiar Feel, a Brand New Experience
The cinematic trailer released on July 18th showcases Splitgate 2's ambition: a game built to last. While retaining the core mechanics that made the original a hit, 1047 Games has focused on refining the gameplay loop and leveraging Unreal Engine 5 for a visually stunning and deeply satisfying experience. CEO Ian Proulx aims for a game that will thrive for a decade or more. The development team has re-evaluated portal mechanics, striving for a balanced experience that rewards skillful portal usage without making it mandatory for success.
Confirmed for release in 2025 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, Splitgate 2 will be free-to-play and introduce a new faction system adding strategic depth. Expect a completely refreshed feel, despite the familiar core gameplay.
Arena Combat Reimagined: Factions, Maps, and More
The original Splitgate's success, marked by 600,000 demo downloads in a single month and server capacity upgrades, paved the way for this ambitious sequel. After ceasing updates on the original to focus on this new iteration, the developers promise "revolutionary, not evolutionary" changes.
The trailer highlights the Sol Splitgate League and introduces three unique factions: Aeros (dash-based mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force). While adding strategic layers, the game will not be a hero shooter.
Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25) will offer a deeper look at the gameplay, but the trailer already hints at exciting features like dual-wielding and impressive new maps and weapons.
Beyond the Arena: A Deeper Dive into Lore
While Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign, a companion mobile app will offer comics, character cards, and even a faction quiz to help players find their perfect fit. Get ready for an immersive experience that extends beyond the arena!
