On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to reveal that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was a fresh trailer showcasing dynamic gameplay footage, giving fans a glimpse into the action that awaits.

Sonic Rumble marks the debut of a multiplayer party game in the Sonic series, designed for up to 32 players to clash in various levels and game modes. Sega describes the game as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the villainous Dr. Eggman, tackling treacherous obstacle courses and dangerous arenas!"

As a free-to-play title, concerns about pay-to-win mechanics have surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He stated, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."
