In a surprising twist that feels like stepping into a nostalgic time machine, there's now a live-action Toys "R" Us movie in development. According to Variety, the creative minds at Story Kitchen—who've been behind recent hit video game adaptations including the Sonic the Hedgehog movies—are set to bring the iconic toy store to life on the big screen. Their goal? To encapsulate the enchanting wonder of childhood in a modern, action-packed adventure that honors the Toys "R" Us brand's legacy over its 70-year history in the toy industry.

“Toys 'R' Us is a cultural touchstone that continues to resonate with the child in all of us,” said Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg. “As kids of the '80s who saw Toys 'R' Us as one of the most magical places on Earth, we’re thrilled to collaborate on a film that will embody the spirit of adventure, creativity, and nostalgia inherent in the Toys 'R' Us experience.”

The film draws inspiration from beloved movies like Night at the Museum, Back to the Future, and Big, alongside successful toy-to-movie franchises such as Barbie. Although details on casting are still under wraps, Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval will produce for Story Kitchen, with Kim Miller Olko producing for Toys "R" Us Studios.

“This marks our inaugural film at Toys 'R' Us, and we're eager to translate the magic of our brand to cinema,” remarked Miller Olko, president of Toys "R" Us Studios. “The film will embark on a journey as limitless as play itself, capturing the vibrant sense of wonder that defines Toys "R" Us. It aims to ignite the imagination, adventure, and joy that has made Toys "R" Us a cherished destination for kids of all ages.”

Last year, Story Kitchen announced their involvement in adapting Square Enix's Just Cause into a film, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto of Blue Beetle fame. They're also working on adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs, showing their versatility and commitment to bringing diverse stories to the screen.
