Rambo is set to make a thrilling comeback with a prequel project titled "John Rambo," directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his work on "Sisu" and "Big Game." According to Deadline, Millennium Media, the company behind the Expendables and Has Fallen series, and a key player in the production of 2008's "Rambo" and 2019's "Rambo: Last Blood," is currently launching the film at the Cannes market.

The Cannes market, a pivotal event that coincides with the Cannes Film Festival, serves as a platform for showcasing upcoming films seeking funding or distribution partners. At this event, potential investors get a first look at projects like "John Rambo."

The plot of "John Rambo" is set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film "First Blood." While details remain under wraps, it's clear that the film will explore Rambo's early experiences. No casting decisions have been finalized yet, and although Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project, he is not currently involved.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been crafted by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, known for their work on "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Filming is scheduled to commence in Thailand in October.

Helander's previous work, especially the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu," showcases his ability to handle high-octane action, making him an exciting choice for this prequel. "Sisu" transformed the concept of John Wick into an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis during their retreat from Finland following the Lapland War, demonstrating Helander's flair for intense and engaging storytelling.
