Adapted from BOOM! Studios' graphic novels by Arash Amel, Butterfly blends family drama with high-stakes espionage in what producers describe as "a character-driven spy thriller set in the treacherous world of international intelligence operations."

The series follows David Jung (Kim), a rogue former U.S. operative hiding in South Korea until his past resurfaces violently. Pursued by sociopathic agent Rebecca (Hardesty) and her shadowy organization Caddis, Jung faces impossible choices that threaten everyone he loves.

"Butterfly represents my passion project," Kim revealed. "It beautifully merges Korean and American storytelling traditions with a talented multicultural team both on-screen and behind the scenes."

The Mentalist veteran Ken Woodruff serves as showrunner alongside novelist Steph Cha, crafting this geopolitical thriller featuring Korean stars Kim Ji-hoon (Money Heist: Korea) and Park Hae-soo (Squid Game) alongside Charles Parnell (Top Gun: Maverick) and Sean Dulake (Pachinko).

The creative team includes executive producers John Cheng (3AD), BOOM! Studios' Stephen Christy and Ross Richie, and original author Arash Amel through his Amel Company.
