"New Predator Unveiled in 'Badlands' Trailer: Unlike Any Before"
The highly anticipated sequel, Predator: Badlands, has just unleashed its teaser trailer, sending sci-fi and action fans into a frenzy. In this sneak peek, we're introduced to Elle Fanning's character, who seems to inhabit a perilous future on a remote planet. What sets this film apart is the twist on the classic Predator narrative: the teaser hints that the Predator she encounters might not be the antagonist we're used to. In fact, it appears that this Predator could be the protagonist of the story. The teaser boldly declares, "The director of Prey welcomes you to a world of pain," setting the stage for an intense cinematic experience.
Beyond the new take on the Predator, the teaser trailer also includes nods to the Alien universe, sparking speculation that Badlands could be setting the stage for a new Aliens vs Predator film. Notably, Fanning's eyes display the Weyland Yutani reboot effect, similar to what we've seen in Alien: Romulus, hinting that she might be a synthetic character. Additionally, a glimpse of the Weyland Yutani logo—the infamous megacorp from the Alien franchise—appears on a damaged vehicle.
That's the Weyland Yutani logo on Elle Fanning's eyes. Is she a synth?
Predator: Badlands was first announced in February 2024, with its release date confirmed later in October of the same year. Although the trailer was initially shown exclusively at CinemaCon earlier this month, this marks the first time fans outside the event have a chance to see what's in store.
20th Century Studios also unveiled an official synopsis at CinemaCon: "In the future on a remote planet, a young Predator, outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary."
Elle Fanning shared some insights about her role at CinemaCon, stating, "Something unprecedented happens in this movie. My character is not the one being chased. My character actually teams up with the Predator. And you get to see him in a completely new light. And... I'll stop there!"
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who is renowned for his work on 10 Cloverfield Lane and the Predator prequel Prey, Predator: Badlands is co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison. The film is slated to hit theaters on November 7, 2025, promising a thrilling new chapter in the Predator saga.
