Assassin’s Creed Shadows Character Will Be Played by One Piece Star Mackenyu Arata

Mackenyu, the Japanese actor renowned for playing Roronoa Zoro in Netflix's One Piece adaptation, is now part of the cast for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft's upcoming RPG set in feudal Japan.

Best known for his role as Zoro, Mackenyu will provide the Japanese and English voice for Gennojo, a character players encounter in the game. Ubisoft describes Gennojo as a key figure who assists the protagonist in locating and eliminating a major target.

Ubisoft elaborated on Gennojo's personality, stating he is a charismatic yet reckless individual, torn by inner conflict and driven by guilt to dismantle a corrupt system. He's depicted as a flirtatious rogue and trickster, balancing wit, deceit, and confidence. Motivated by a desire to overthrow corruption, Gennojo is willing to risk everything, including his life. Despite his rough edges, he upholds a strong sense of justice, particularly in aiding the poor and elderly.

It remains unclear when players will meet Gennojo, but he is expected to play a significant role in the game's missions. Mackenyu mentioned that Gennojo belongs to a group called the "Shinobi League" and can be recruited as a companion to join the player's journey.
