DC Studios' head, James Gunn, has officially announced that Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21. Alongside this announcement, Gunn shared a brief snippet of new footage, showcasing John Cena's character in action, complete with a smirk directed at the camera amid a backdrop of flames. In the clip, Peacemaker is referred to as "a superhero now."

In an enthusiastic tweet, Gunn expressed his excitement, stating that the Season 2 premiere is "one of my favorite things ever." He mentioned completing the DI & Mix on the premiere the day before the announcement, further highlighting his personal investment in the project.

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the release of Superman on July 11, marking the cinematic kickoff for Gunn's revamped DC Universe (DCU). This season will be the third entry in the new DCU, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

The new DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, aims to distance itself from the critically panned DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new universe. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with Season 1 and now continuing in the new DCU with Season 2.

Gunn has previously stated that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though specifics about what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He has confirmed that the entire cast from Team Peacemaker will return, with John Cena reprising his lead role, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Moreover, Gunn has revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
