Palworld Dating Sim Revealed as Real Video Game as Dev Insists It's Not an April Fools' Day Joke

by Charlotte May 02,2025

Developer Pocketpair has announced an exciting new addition to their universe with Palworld! More Than Just Pals, a dating sim set within their massively popular monster-catching world. This isn't a repeat of their previous April Fools' antics; this game is very much real and slated for release on PC via Steam at a yet-to-be-specified date.

Announced on March 31, 2025, this news might have seemed like a typical April Fools' gag to some, given the timing. However, Pocketpair has been quick to clarify that Palworld! More Than Just Pals is a legitimate project, inspired by their playful 2024 April Fools' stunt that introduced the concept as a jest. Now, it's becoming a reality, much to the surprise and delight of fans.

Palworld! More Than Just Pals introduces players to the world of Palagos Private Academy, where they enroll as a transfer student. The game offers a unique blend of friendship and romance, allowing players to interact with a diverse cast of student Pals, including characters like the "cute" and "mysterious" Katress, and the "timid" Chillet. These characters are drawn directly from the existing Palworld universe, offering a familiar yet fresh experience.

The official description from Pocketpair outlines the gameplay: "You, the protagonist, enroll as a transfer student in the prestigious Palagos Private Academy. You will meet unique friends (pals) and enjoy school life through friendship and romance. It's up to you whether you stay friends with the pals, develop romantic relationships with them, or even dismember and eat them." This intriguing mix of light-hearted romance and darker elements promises a unique gaming experience.

To quell any remaining skepticism, Bucky from Pocketpair took to social media to affirm the project's legitimacy, stating, "This doesn't concern April Fools :)."

As Palworld itself celebrated its one-year anniversary in January, it continues to evolve with regular updates, the most recent of which added features like crossplay support, Blueprint upgrades, and a photo mode. These updates should help tide fans over until the release of Palworld! More Than Just Pals. Additionally, while there's some hope for a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the original Palworld, fans are also eagerly awaiting news on whether Palworld! More Than Just Pals might make its way to the console in the future.
