Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Arrives with Issues

Bethesda has officially stated that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered does not include official mod support. However, this hasn't deterred the game's passionate fans, who have already begun releasing their own unofficial modifications.

Shortly after Bethesda and Virtuos’ surprise launch of the reimagined Oblivion for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, several community-created mods appeared on the popular site Nexus Mods. While these initial offerings are mostly minor customization tweaks, they demonstrate the unwavering dedication of The Elder Scrolls modding community.

As of this writing, a notable 22 mods are already listed on the site. The very first mod to be released simply lets PC players personalize their desktop by swapping the default Oblivion Remastered shortcut with one of two images featuring the infamous Adoring Fan. Several mods allow players to skip the introductory Bethesda and Virtuos logo screens. Others, such as one that adjusts the Wizard’s Fury spell and another that removes the compass, are already providing gameplay customization options.

This early wave of mods coincides with Bethesda's announcement that, unlike its usual policy, Oblivion Remastered will not feature official mod support. The company confirmed on its website's FAQ that players would need to look to the community for modifications.

In a show of what's possible, Nexus Mods user GodschildGaming uploaded an Iron Longsword damage mod partly to prove that Oblivion Remastered is still highly moddable.

"This just goes to show that modding is possible," the user stated in the mod's description. "Bethesda says there's no mod support, but I disagree. The game is essentially built on Unreal Engine layered over the original Oblivion. The data folder is buried deeper within the file structure, but the core concept for modding remains the same."

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered launched today, 19 years after the original game's release, for PC and consoles. As more players dive into the game in the coming weeks and months, the library of available mods is sure to expand, offering increasingly creative ways to tailor the experience.
