"Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con"

by Joshua Apr 27,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, putting an end to the swirling rumors. This confirmation comes courtesy of the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, where eagle-eyed users spotted the letter 'C' on the button in promotional images available on both the App Store and Google Play.

The C button was first unveiled alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, though initial images of the new Joy-Con did not feature any lettering. Speculation was rife, with many believing it to be the "C" button as suggested by prior reports, and now we have confirmation.

There's been a flurry of speculation about the function of this new C button. Theories range from it being used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV or enabling screen sharing, to possibly changing the Joy-Con's functionality, such as toggling into a mouse mode. There's also talk that it might be related to new group or voice chat features.

Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button and other features. In the meantime, here's what we know for sure:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The console is larger than its predecessor, with bigger Joy-Con that resemble a mouse in design.
  • It features two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, confirmed to play both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as exclusive Switch 2 titles. However, some Switch games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.

In other news, Nintendo recently hosted a Direct focused on the original Switch, during which they unveiled the Nintendo Today! app. Shigeru Miyamoto himself introduced this new app during the showcase, emphasizing its role as a central hub for Nintendo fans.

The Nintendo Today! app promises to keep fans in the loop with a daily calendar and news updates. Following the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, users can log into the app for all the latest news, which Miyamoto assured would be updated on a daily basis.
