Nintendo Switch 2: 120fps, 4K Docked

It feels like we've been speculating for years about the specs of Nintendo's highly anticipated Nintendo Switch upgrade, and now that we finally have the details, the results are more impressive than many might have anticipated. The new console supports up to 120fps and can reach 4K resolution when docked, showcasing a significant leap in performance.

PlayDuring today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled several key features of the system. The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger 7.9-inch built-in screen compared to its predecessor, while maintaining the same thickness of 13.9mm. With approximately double the pixels, it supports a 1080p display in handheld mode at up to 120fps. The screen is an LCD panel that supports HDR, and when docked, it can handle up to 4K resolution with HDR as well.

The Joy-Con 2 controllers feature a magnetic connection and can be detached by pressing a release button on the back. The SL and SR buttons on the sides are larger, enhancing playability in horizontal mode, and the left and right sticks have also been upsized. This segment also officially introduced mouse control support within the Joy-Con controllers.

The handheld version of the Nintendo Switch 2 includes a built-in microphone with noise-canceling technology and supports 3D audio for compatible games. It also comes with a larger, more robust stand that can be adjusted to various heights. Additionally, there's a top USB port that can be used for external camera connectivity or to charge the system while in tabletop mode.

Finally, we learned that the Nintendo Switch 2 is equipped with 256GB of internal storage.
