Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games: Kirby and Super Mario Party Jamboree

Nintendo has recently disclosed the pricing for upgrading two popular games from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is notably higher than expected.

For instance, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife has highlighted that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that price each.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild features improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service within the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on the Switch can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content called "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree includes a new feature, "Jamboree TV," which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, it offers enhanced resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—potentially due to uncertainties with President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 required to upgrade either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a likely U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade fee may be influenced by the elevated cost of the full Switch 2 Edition games, with both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV priced at $79.99, compared to their original Switch versions at $59.99.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened today, April 24, maintaining the price at $449.99. They sold out quickly, as expected. Nintendo has also warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date is not guaranteed due to high demand.
