Switch 2 Revealed in Nintendo Direct Showcase
Nintendo has officially announced that the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct presentation will run for approximately 60 minutes.
This duration is notably lengthy for a Nintendo Direct, indicating that Nintendo has a substantial amount of content to showcase during this highly anticipated event.
The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct is scheduled to begin on April 2, 2025, at 6:00 AM PDT / 9:00 AM EDT / 2:00 PM BST. Nintendo stated this presentation will provide a more detailed view of the Switch 2, following the console's initial reveal earlier in the year.
That first look showcased the Switch 2's form factor, hinted at what appears to be Mario Kart 9, and teased a potential 'mouse' functionality for the new Joy-Con controllers.
However, several key questions about the Switch 2 remain unanswered. These include the function of the mysterious new 'C' button on the Joy-Con, the console's processing power, and the purpose of its new ports.
This Nintendo Direct is also expected to reveal the full launch lineup of games for the Switch 2, along with its official release date, which is widely predicted for sometime between June and September 2025. Hopes are high that Nintendo will also confirm the console's price, with industry analysts forecasting a $400 launch cost.
A clearer picture of the Switch 2's game library is beginning to emerge. There is a substantial list of rumored third-party titles coming to the platform. In an interview with IGN, developers from Firaxis, the studio behind Civilization 7, described the Joy-Con's apparent mouse mode as "definitely intriguing." French video game and accessories manufacturer Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2 and RoboCop: Rogue City, confirmed it has Switch 2 games ready for launch. The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored for a Switch 2 release. Additionally, EA has expressed that major franchises like Madden, FC (formerly FIFA), and The Sims would be excellent fits for the new console.
Last week's Nintendo Direct also introduced a new 'Virtual Game Cards' feature for sharing games between consoles, which prompted further questions, especially regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, as hinted by a footnote on an official Nintendo webpage.
In related news, Nintendo confirmed a Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 event, featuring hands-on gameplay of upcoming Switch 2 titles. This broadcast is set for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7:00 AM PT on both days.
