Nerf This - Could Overwatch Be Going Mobile?

Overwatch Mobile Revival Possible as Nexon Signs Deal with Blizzard

The dream of Overwatch on mobile seemed dead after Jason Schreier's exposé revealed development had stalled. However, a new partnership between Korean developer Nexon and Blizzard might reignite that possibility.

StarCraft Takes Center Stage – But Overwatch Mobile Lurks

While the deal primarily grants Nexon publishing and development rights for new entries in the StarCraft RTS franchise (beating out competitors like Krafton and Netmarble), reports suggest Overwatch mobile publishing rights were also part of negotiations. This indicates Blizzard hasn't abandoned mobile plans—and may even be considering a MOBA-style sequel.

Heroes Reborn or New MOBA Adventure?

Overwatch already has MOBA roots through Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm, so a mobile version could revive that concept. Alternatively, this may bring an entirely new spin-off. One thing seems certain: don't expect "Overwatch 3." The franchise has always been PC/console-focused, and a mobile MOBA would represent a major shift.

Still, leaning into the MOBA elements could work in Overwatch's favor, especially with competitors like Marvel Rivals gaining ground. This deal might be Blizzard's play to reinvigorate the franchise—on a whole new platform.
